Orange Slice Cookie Mix

1 3/4 C all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 C brown sugar, lightly packed
3/4 C sugar
1 1/2 C Orange Slice Candy (10 oz), quartered

Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda and add to the jar. Add the brown sugar to the jar and press down gently to form a layer. Combine the white sugar and the orange candies to coat the cut pieces of the candy with sugar to prevent the candy from clumping together. Add them to the jar. Seal the jar and store in a cool dry place away from a heat source.

Directions:

Remove orange slice candy from jar and set aside. Empty remaining cookie mix into large mixing bowl and stir to combine. Add: 1/2 cup softened butter or margarine, 1 egg slightly beaten and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until completely blended. Add the orange slice candy and mix gently. Shape into walnut-size balls and place 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets. Bake at 375º F for 12 to 14 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet, then remove cookies to and cool on baking raking to racks to finish cooling. Makes 2 1/2 dozen cookies.

Recipe Review

  • My 14 year old son recently made these. He made them according to the recipe except that he melted the butter, then combined with the mix.
  • He gives these a "thumbs up"!
  • Personally, I think they are too sweet, but kids will probably like it. If you don't want to cut the orange slice candy, you might use gumdrop candy instead.
